Reading to much into things… March 19, 2007

Filed under: TV — mmmchocoloate @ 6:22 pm

Did anyone read those articles about Friends and Smallville? Although I do see the merrit in analyzing things I feel that those ‘investigations’ into the homosexual relationships on Friends and Smallville is more like taking an idea and reading into something to make it support your idea.

These shows are just superficial comedy and drama television, not carrying deep underlying meaning. I mean Joey and Chandler are gay? Sure the show played with connotations of homosexuality for humor, but I don’t think we should read too deeply into these things.

Although there may be some interesting ideas, I have to say Friends is just a comedy and that is about all the ‘deep interpretation’ I can give it.

I completly agree with you. When I was reading the article about the “Friends” television program I was actually getting so angry. I hate when people publish something just for the purpose of publishing something. Like the person who wrote that article was clearly reading into something that was not there. If they are saying that Chandler and Joey have a gay relationship, then what about Chandler and Monica? Is he a closet gay? And would Rachel and Monica then also be considered gay? Like where do you draw the line? It is like people want to be heard so bad that they are making stuff up. Friends is just a comedy that is hilarious… I agree with you on how there is really nothing to read into here!
